Data sources and methodology

GreenCardTracker is built from public immigration data and official government sources. This page explains where our information comes from, how often we check it, and what parts of the site are summaries or calculations rather than direct government statements.

USCIS processing times

We use USCIS published processing-time information for immigration benefit forms. GreenCardTracker may simplify or group those values so applicants can scan common forms more easily. Processing-time data is historical and does not predict the exact timeline for an individual case.

Visa Bulletin

Visa Bulletin pages use the U.S. Department of State's monthly Visa Bulletin. For adjustment-of-status applicants inside the United States, USCIS separately announces whether applicants may use Final Action Dates or Dates for Filing for that month.

Filing fees

Filing-fee pages are based on USCIS fee schedules and official form pages. Fees can change, and some applicants may qualify for fee exemptions or fee waivers depending on the form and facts.

Field offices

Field-office pages summarize official USCIS office information and nearby local context. USCIS field offices generally do not accept walk-ins unless the applicant has an appointment.

What we calculate

Some pages calculate simplified labels, comparisons, or wait-time differences from official data. Examples include current/not-current priority-date status, approximate time behind a cutoff date, and simplified processing-time ranges. These calculations are informational only.

What we do not know

GreenCardTracker cannot see private USCIS case records, officer notes, background-check status, service-center transfers, Requests for Evidence, interview scheduling decisions, or attorney-client facts. For case-specific advice, contact a licensed immigration attorney.
