Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals

Also: DACA

Discretionary protection from deportation for certain people brought to the U.S. as children.

Created by executive action in 2012, DACA defers removal and grants work authorization to qualifying individuals who came to the U.S. before age 16 and meet education or military requirements. DACA is not lawful status and does not lead directly to a green card. Litigation continues to shape its future.
