Oath of Allegiance

The oath taken at a naturalization ceremony to become a U.S. citizen.

The Oath of Allegiance is the final step in the naturalization process. New citizens swear allegiance to the United States, renounce foreign allegiances, and agree to defend the Constitution. Citizenship is effective at the moment the oath is taken.
