I-130

Petition for Alien Relative — the family-based immigrant petition.

Form I-130 is the first step in most family-based cases. A U.S. citizen or LPR files I-130 to establish the qualifying relationship with a foreign relative. Approval does not grant any status — it just places the beneficiary in line for a visa.
