A 9-digit IRS-issued number used by noncitizens who cannot obtain an SSN.
An ITIN is issued by the IRS to people who must file U.S. tax returns but are ineligible for an SSN. It is used solely for tax purposes and does not authorize work or confer any immigration benefit.
