Visa for victims of certain crimes who cooperate with law enforcement.
The U visa protects victims of qualifying crimes (domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and others) who have suffered substantial harm and are helpful to investigation or prosecution. After three years in U status, the holder may apply for a green card. The annual cap is 10,000 principal visas.
