Consular Processing
Applying for an immigrant visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad.
Consular processing is the alternative to adjustment of status. Once USCIS approves the underlying petition and the priority date becomes current, the case moves to the National Visa Center and then to a U.S. embassy or consulate for the immigrant visa interview.
